Jasper Drummond is a designer, poet & educator, creating and teaching in Chicago—
The moment of resonance when a person slips into an exceptional piece of clothing exists in the same realm, for me, as a reader gripped by words so fiercely they believe the poet speaks directly to them through the page. These modes of communication exist in physical and tangible ways— fabrics, thread; paper and ink. They also work in unseen corners: emotion, memory, sound, and imagery.
I create menswear with a focus on merging historically tailored silhouettes with contemporary edge and luxurious, poetic construction. One-of-a-kind pieces in leather, denim, linen and wool are crafted by hand in Chicago and are available for purchase.
As a teacher, I work with a broad age range of students—middle school, undergraduate and adult continuing education— teaching courses in sewing, garment construction, fashion design and pattern making. I also work freelance as a sample sewer & pattern maker, fashion writer, and create costumes for theater and drag performances, as well as custom garments for clients.
